ishq par zor nahii.n hai ye vo aatish ‘Ghalib’

Meaning
There is no control / compulsion in love,it’s such a fire
That neither can it be lit, nor extinguished

Explanation/Comment:
‘Zor’ can mean both control and compulsion. One has no control over love. It just happens.
Love is like a fire. One cannot compel/control someone to light it. Once lit, however, one cannot compel/control someone to extinguish it.
The tragic consequences of forcing one’s love on another and hurting oneself (and/or the loved one) when snubbed is well known.
Equally, the tragic consequences of trying to separate two persons in love are also well too known.
Love is a very precious emotion. It needs nurturing and acceptance, not compulsion or control.
