banaa kar faqiiro.n kaa ham bhes ‘Ghaalib’
tamaashaa-e-ahl-e-karam dekhte hai.n

Meaning
Taking on the disguise of a mendicant, O Ghalib
I observe the drama of the display (tamasha) of human generosity

Explanation/Comment:

Take the disguise of a mendicant (faqiron ka bhes) to observe the tamasha of human generosity (tamasha- e-ahl-e-karam)

People don’t give you what you need. People only give you what they want to give, or need to give, to project an image.

Mostly, people will do a bit and take great footage. A small donation, a little bit of service somewhere, and many photographs in the press and social media. Smiling poses, and all.

Observing such ‘tamasha’e ahl-e-karam’ i.e. the drama of human kindness and generosity is possible only if you don the garb of a wandering mendicant. Because, as a mendicant nobody cares what you do, or observe, but you can move freely everywhere.

So, be careful. Some modern Ghalib maybe moving about and observing your display of generosity!
